PEUGEOT 304 CABRIOLETS : M

MAE 765L

1973

METALLIC BEIGE (TBC)

S VERSION (TBC)

MOT : 2021 PASS

TAX : 1991

The owner got in touch in 2016, describing MAE as in original condition, with good bodywork but being laid up for 8 years. It appears to have passed an MOT since, but not been taxed. Some photos and more info available one day I hope.

MAN 740N

1974

ALASKAN WHITE

S VERSION

MOT : NOT AVAILABLE

TAX : NOT AVAILABLE

Originally a Corn Yellow 304 (registration XTD 324N), this fine 304 Cab has undergone thorough restoration (with the aid of a donor car) and now lives on the Isle of Man where it has been re registered with a Manx number.

MBD 98K

1971

METALLIC GREY

PRE-S VERSION

MOT : NO RECORDS

TAX : 1991

One of four 304 Cabriolets discovered in a field in 2019, the finder described MBD as 'falling to bits, definitely more rust than car'. As a 1971 model, this would have been one of the first 304 Cabs to reach the UK. Not yet formally scrapped as far as I know.

MFB 707K

1972

AZURE BLUE

S VERSION

MOT : 2017 PASS

TAX : 2017

MFB is a good looking Pre-S cabriolet. It was advertised on Car and Classic (around 2014 - not sure exactly when) with the seller saying it was purchased from a dealer in 2011 following a full rebuild, and in excellent condition. Sale price not known.

Pre-S wheels, grille and interior are all as they should be.

MFM 725P

1975

MOSS GREEN

S VERSION

MOT : NO RECORDS

TAX : 1991

MFM turned up at NCM Auctions in 2019 - rather amazingly it was advertised as one of 135 'barn find' cars from the same seller! I don't know the sale price, but it was advertised again on Ebay in 2020 with an asking price of £3995 - the seller describing it as complete but in need of restoration.

MGK 184P

1975

AZURE BLUE

S VERSION

MOT : NO RECORDS

TAX : 1984

I believe Old Father Time is sharpening his scythe for MGK. In 2020 the owner emailed me to say it was 'too far gone' to be saved, and instead it was being used as a donor car to help secure the futures of NUB 403L and KEV 431N.

MGL 578K

1972

GREY (NON STANDARD)

PRE-S VERSION

MOT : 2021 PASS

TAX : 2021

MGL is a Pre-S version 304 Cab which has passed through Brightwells Auction at least three times. It sports an unusual grey coat and black wheels, and even more unusual leather seats fitted from a Fiat Barchetta. Plenty of documented history accompanied the sales.

MHW 523L

1973

AZURE BLUE

S VERSION

MOT : 2010 FAIL

TAX : 2009

One of four 304 Cabriolets discovered in a field in 2019, the finder described MHW as 'not too bad'. Apparently it was sold on Ebay in 2019, but somehow I managed to miss it. I'd love to hear from the owner if you're out there!

MOU 837L

1973

PURPLE (NON STANDARD)

S VERSION

MOT : 2013 FAIL

TAX : SORN

I'm not sure how it could've happened, but MOU sold for a meagre £400 on Ebay in 2016. A more generous price was achieved when it appeared again in 2021, described as a 'requires restoration' project. DVLA has this recorded as blue - it might be, but it looks purple to me on the photos.

MPA 200K

1972

METALLIC BEIGE

PRE-S VERSION

MOT : 2017 PASS

TAX : 2021

According to the 2018 seller, 'FiFi' - a Pre-S model - had been treated to a 1000 mile trip through France following remedial welding work underneath. Asking price was a shade over £8000, including hard top.

MSR 809Y

1975

BLUE (NON STANDARD)

S VERSION

MOT : 2016 PASS

TAX : SORN

MSR is an intriguing one - a right hand drive 304 that was first registered in France before coming to the UK in 1983, according to the 2019 Ebay seller. Described as 'good condition', it fetched a whisker over £3000.

MWV 71J

1971

SAFFRON

PRE-S VERSION

MOT : 2016 PASS

TAX : 2021

I've never met this car, but it has a place in my heart - it is, to date, the only Orange 304 Cab I've found. Orange was a colour much favoured by Peugeot in their 1970s marketing.

Wait - did I say Orange? Excuse me, Saffron!
